About

About the Artist

I was born and raised in Charleston, SC.  I sold my first painting to my teacher in the third grade, which kicked off a lifelong interest in pursuing art. After attending the SC Governor's School for the Arts in high school, I continued her arts education at Wake Forest, graduating with a minor in Studio Art.
Back in my hometown, I tried my hand at launching an oil painting career.  I made it as far as hosting a solo exhibit at the Historic Charleston Foundation during Charleston's French Quarter Art Walk before marrying, moving to Missouri, and shifting my focus to starting a family.
Three daughters later and back in Charleston, I began drawing pencil portraits- at first for other mothers of preschoolers. This led to selling  portrait commissions through Charleston Children's Boutique.  After another move to Upstate South Carolina following my husband's job, and the adoption of our fourth daughter from Albania,  I picked up my art supplies again, but this time with an itch to work in color alongside pencil portraits.
I embrace a representational style and seek to merge an accurate rendering with a painterly approach. I am inspired by anything organic or asymmetrical- such as portraiture, landscape scenery, and still lifes.  I enjoy working two-dimensionally in a variety of mediums, such as pencil, pastel, charcoal, watercolor and oil.
My Christian faith is the defining feature of my life, and my hope is that all of my artwork makes a compelling case for what is Beautiful and True.
